Once you realise that you have been drifting in your life or career, the best way to stop it is to look for a landmark and bring yourself out of water as soon as possible. Sounds easy, doesn’t it?

The fact is that it’s very hard to do. Looking for a landmark requires you to know what kind of landmark to choose because it must be clear enough for you so you can bring yourself onshore. If you are drifting in your career, the best way to stop drifting is to find a goal for yourself and a purpose for your life. A goal can be an ideal job, a higher position, or a new career if you don’t like your current industry.
Here, the importance of knowing what you like (or what you don’t like) kicks in. If you clearly know what you want, then it’s easy. You need an action plan to take you to the goal. If you don’t know what you like, but know what you don’t like, it’s not too bad; just avoid what you don’t like and choose one that you are OK with. If you have no idea, then unfortunately you may have an issue.

Most people don’t know what they want, so they just ‘keep going’ along their careers and lives. This is classic drifting and almost guarantee that you will have an ordinary or even so so life. If you are in such a situation right now, I’d suggest that you seek help from a career/life coach and rebuild your life. You need a plan; a good one and I can help you. An interesting discussion is value comment. I think that you need to write more on this topic, it may not be a taboo subject but usually people are not enough to talk on such topics. To the next. Cheers
