Stop drifting in you life and career- how to stop drifting? (Part III)

(A landmark is something so clear that you won’t miss it even during the night.)

Once you realise that you have been drifting in your life or career, the best way to stop it is to look for a ‘landmark’ and bring yourself out of water as soon as possible. Sounds easy, doesn’t it?

The fact is that it’s very hard to do. Looking for a landmark requires you to know what kind of ‘landmark’ to choose because it must be clear enough for you so you can bring yourself onshore. If you are drifting in your career, the best way to stop drifting is to find a goal for yourself and a purpose for your life. A goal can be an ideal job, a higher position, or a new career if you don’t like your current industry.

Here the importance of knowing what you like (or what you don’t like) kicks in. If you clearly know what you want, then it’s easy. You need an action plan to take you to the goal. If you don’t know what you like, but know what you don’t like, it’s not too bad; just avoid what you don’t like and choose one that you are OK with. If you have no idea, then you have a problem.

Most people don’t know what they want, so they just ‘keep going’ along the career and life. This is classic drifting and almost guarantee that you will have an ordinary or even so so life. If you belong to this type of people, I’d suggest that you find a career/life coach and rebuild your life. You need a plan; a good one and I can help you.
